A NATION OF MILLIONS

A NATION OF MILLIONS

This is Robi Walters first solo show at the Quantus Gallery. A Nation of Millions refers to the many hand cut petals that make up his collages. Each tiny piece comes together to form a whole – much like his spiritual practice where the individual morphs into the one, cosmic consciousness. It also references his early years and the impact hip hop culture had on him as he embarked on his creative journey writing graffiti. So he thought it particularly fitting in 2023, the year the world celebrates the “50th Anniversary of Hip Hop” to pay his respects. The album “It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” by Public Enemy was hugely impactful and as a British youth of West Indian Heritage whose grandparents were of the Windrush generation;  the title also translated to his heritage here on the other side of the Atlantic.

These mesmerising, socially-charged pieces are born from sacred geometry, exploring inner space and the calm he seeks in his daily meditation practice. Over the past decade, his oeuvre has communicated the art of transformation, employing discarded materials to create a unique commentary upon consumerism, consumption and waste. Robi’s artistic practice echoes his own life. The process of taking discarded objects and making them beautiful and ‘wanted’ reflects the spirit of transformation with which he has turned his own life around. Robi continues to break past his own boundaries to make his dreams reality

ICONS

ICONS

Moli Icons celebrates sporting icons such as Pelé, Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan, but is also underpinned by a layered social and cultural commentary, including nods to his African roots. His hand-picked icons also include Nelson Mandela and “the richest man in history” medieval Malian king Mansa Musa, who travelled to Mecca in 1325 with a tonne of gold as spending money.

Moli Icons bears the influence of Pop Art (most evident in his détournement-heavy portraits of Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe), which is one of several artistic touchstones for Boogie. He also uses several interesting techniques, including wheat paste as an adhesive, the mix for which Boogie makes himself. Visitors to the show will enjoy 25 new original paintings, limited edition prints, collectible hand embellished football boots and paint-embellished footballs.

THE POWER OF TOUCH

THE POWER OF TOUCH

‘The Power of Touch’, invites its visitors to touch, feel and experience Reynolds’ distinctive Braille art. Sighted members are given special glasses where they can sample the art the same way a blind / partially sighted person would.

Through the tactile language of raised circular dots, Reynolds expresses his journey as an artist, bringing to life the experience of those who are blind or visually impaired in a way that is both visually stunning and emotionally moving. “Obviously, when I learnt Braille three years ago, it was like ‘how can I make it accessible for everyone?’, and I was like, well, Braille is not meant to be seen,” explains the artist.

“Then I had the idea of giving it colour and behind you, they look like something very pop-arty, but the colours aren’t random. So what I did… I looked at the commonality of letters appearing in words, then used colour theory, so they weren’t just random colours I plucked out of the air,” he adds.

MAJESTY: A TRIBUTE TO THE QUEEN

MAJESTY: A TRIBUTE TO THE QUEEN

Majesty a new and historic royal exhibition in London will bring together three renowned royal artists with unique perspectives of the Queen for the very first time. The exhibition, which opens in Tribute to Her Majesty on 28 the September at Quantus Gallery, features the work of Rob Munday, Frances Segelman and Christian Furr, all of whom have portrayed the Queen during her life variously through photography, holography, painting and sculpture.

Each artist has explored the myriad facets and perceptions of the monarch in their own way, seeing her anew in forms at once cutting-edge or classical. In this way, their work brings together the facets of a public life of service, pageantry and totemic impact and a private life of ‘everywoman humanity’ — and ultimately mystery.
